Summit The West Lion !

Professional ACMG guides will safely lead you to the summit. West Lion is an iconic peak visible to the north from downtown Vancouver. The view from on top is the best view from any peak in the North Shore mountains. Ninety percent of the hike follows the Paul Binkert Trail up from Lions Bay, with the last section involving steep scrambling on exposed ledges, and rocky sections. Note: participants are not required to climb the final section and can stop at the final viewpoint.

From Lions Bay, old Logging roads and the Paul Binkert trail lead up into the alpine on the south shoulder of West Lion. From there the hike becomes more technical. Graded 5.1 on the climbers scale of difficulty, it is classified as exposed scrambling on ledges with steep rocky sections and plenty of handholds. Your ACMG climbing guide will skillfully use harnesses, helmets, and a rope to safely lead everyone to the summit and back down.

Without a skilled guide or climbing experience, most hikers do not go past the south shoulder. However, on this trip you will stand on the true summit. Cameras are mandatory!
