Traverse Granite Peaks!
The Nesakwatch Traverse is a fantastic introduction to alpine rock climbing. This trip is 2 days with the first day spent hiking to the bivy site below the spires, and the second day completing the traverse and hiking out. The climbing is mostly fun, low 5th with a few pitches of 5.6 and 5.7.
You begin with breakfast and, of course coffee, in the morning followed by an ascent of North Nasakwatch Spire north ridge. You will need your camera handy as the views across the valley to Mt. Slesse are outstanding. Next, you continue between the spires and ascend South Nesakwatch Spire north ridge. One 30 m rappel into a third class gully brings you directly back to camp.
Option: add 1 - 2 extra days and climb the West Ridge of Mt Rexford 5.5 and/or the South West Ridge of North Nesakwatch 5.9. Both amazing climbs on perfect, blocky, granite.
For climbers wanting to complete these routes with less multi-pitch experience we recommend a less committing Squamish Classic like Smoke Bluff Connection or Rambles. Vancouver Mountain Guides can prepare you for this climb ahead of time in Squamish.
Meet at Tractorgrease Cafe on the Chilliwack Lake Road at 10am. Read and sign the waiver(s), and check equipment before driving 4x4 to the trailhead. The approach hike takes 4 hours to the bivi sites.
Breakfast at 5am before beginning the traverse. Takes 6 hours to complete the traverse. Descend the South gully back to camp and pack up before heading back down to the vehicle.
Plan to be back at the car by 5pm.
